The scientific forecast that the earth will only come to an end in connection with the collapse of our sun in about five billion years seems more than optimistic to me. Equally optimistic are simulations that see the end of life on Earth as possible in around 250 million years in connection with gigantic tectonic shifts. All these calculations underestimate the true (self-)destruction potential of humans, which will certainly usher in the end of the world much sooner.
