Drei Seiten einer Medaille (1. Transformation)

As shown in the phonetic picture, the work is the idea/concept of a picture. It is the first of three planned transformations—the transfer to a sheet of paper in the original language, hence the title “Three sides of the same coin”.

The subject of the picture for non-German viewers is shown below and thus a fourth transformation.

typesetting – typeface – phonetic transcription: the text behind the text is the typesetting. at the same time an image behind the text and an image behind the image. just like a language behind a language that transforms spoken language into written sounds. behind in and above all: thoughts.
this work is about language, or rather: about a linguistic image behind other linguistic images – in the final, however, about one and the same object. language means thoughts, images and sounds. in its complexity, it is the highest art. thoughts as ideas and/or concepts make language possible. both are inextricably linked and influence each other and language supports thinking even when we think things without having words for them. often, however, we think in images that we subsequently put into words and in many cases, thinking in images even predominates. artists, composers and poets are said to think in this way. at the beginning there is the idea of a page that depicts a short text as a combination of sounds, the concept of the form: a headline two columns framed by two paragraphs and the tool for generating the text: the markup language latex. the text itself is created in the design process and develops into a concise description of the work. the first transformation of the idea takes place with this image. first the latex instructions are written, which reproduce the image in an immediately understandable written text (second transformation). this is followed by the latex instructions for the image in the phonetic script (third transformation).
the idea, concept and realization ultimately arise within a given framework of knowledge and experience. without knowledge of the languages, phonetic transcription and their possibilities, the work could not be conceived.
